Sándor Torok (Stara Moravica, 1936 – Debrecen, 2006) was an artist who made an important contribution to contemporary artistic expression in Vojvodina. He participated in the founding of several art colonies in Vojvodina: Csurgó, 9+1 in Stara Moravica, Bucka Gányó; and was a member of many others: in Bačka Topola, Ečka, Bečej, Senta and others. He created in a variety of techniques, such as pastel, oil, acrylic, collage, ink and watercolour, and from the very beginning, he expressed his preferences to abstract forms, expressive colours, expression of space and dynamics in it. He also expressed himself through engaged and conceptual art. Works of Sándor Torok are in several collections in Vojvodina: in the Municipal Museum and the Modern Art Gallery in Subotica, in József Tóth Foundation and the collection of the Municipal Museum of Senta, in the Municipal Museum of Bečej, in the Modern Gallery of the Art Colony in Ečka in Zrenjanin, and in the Museum of Contemporary Art in Novi Sad. He donated ten pictures to his native village, Stara Moravica in the form of a gift collection, which are permanently displayed in the building of the local government. These are works with the theme of landscape, on which the reality of space and nature is only indicated through certain forms, details, colours or the title of the picture. With some of these works, Sándor Torok was admitted into the Association of Fine Artists of Serbia (Ninkov 2009).
